VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION WORK DONE, VOLUME TERMS

Trend estimates

• The trend estimate for the value of total engineering construction work done rose 2.9% in the June 2006 quarter. The trend has now risen for twenty one consecutive quarters.
• The trend estimate for the value of work done for the private sector rose 2.5% in the June 2006 quarter. Work done for the public sector rose 2.9%.

• The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total engineering construction work done in the June 2006 quarter rose 3.4%, to $10,806.6m. This follows a revised March quarter increase of 2.9% and is the eleventh consecutive quarterly rise in this series.
• The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of work done for the private sector rose 5.4% in the June 2006 quarter. The value of work done for the public sector rose 0.7%, to $4,298.2m.

• The value of work done in the June 2006 quarter rose 15.7%, to $11,358.1m following a 6.0% fall in the previous quarter.
• The value of work done for the private sector rose 11.0%, to $6,439.8m in the June 2006 quarter, following a 12.2% fall in the previous quarter. Total work done for the public sector rose 22.6%, to $4,918.3m.

SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS THIS QUARTER

Compared with the current price original terms estimates published in the previous issue of this publication:

• The March quarter 2006 estimates have been revised downwards by $296m for work commenced, upwards $138m for work done and downwards $238.4m for work yet to be done. These revisions occurred predominantly in 'private for private' 'oil, gas, coal and other minerals' in Western Australia.
• The December quarter 2005 estimates have been revised downwards by $46.8m for work commenced, upwards by $49.8m for work done and downwards $96m for work yet to be done. These revisions were predominantly in 'private for private' 'oil, gas, coal and other minerals' and 'other' in Western Australia.
• The September quarter 2005 estimates have been revised upwards by $74m for work done and downwards $74m for work yet to be done. These revisions occurred in 'private for private' 'oil, gas, coal and other minerals' in Western Australia.
